The Salvation Army is looking for a passionate, adaptable, and community-minded individual to join its Family Store team in Palmerston North, New Zealand’s Manawatu / Whanganui region. 

As a Family Store Assistant, you’ll be vital in delivering excellent customer service, sorting and pricing donated goods, and ensuring the store is well presented and welcoming.

Job Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have:

• Excellent customer service skills with sound judgment and calmness under pressure

• Physical fitness and the ability to regularly lift donated goods
  
• Comfort using retail systems like POS and tablets
  
• Ability to stay on task and adapt quickly in a busy environment
  
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  
• A high level of integrity and respect for The Salvation Army’s values
  
• The legal right to work in New Zealand
  
• Willingness to undergo a Ministry of Justice police check

Responsibilities

As a Family Store Assistant, your key duties include:

• Greeting and serving customers and donors with warmth and professionalism
  
• Receiving, sorting, pricing, and merchandising donated goods
  
• Handling sales and cash with accuracy, including end-of-day reconciliation
  
• Maintaining a tidy, well-stocked, and inviting store environment
  
• Adhering to store policies, health and safety rules, and audit controls
  
• Contributing to a positive team culture and supporting daily store operations
